Are we just loving the punishment? Just when we thought we got our boat just right, we decided to get another money pit project boat. We got our hands on a 2000 Boston Whaler Outrage 28 or 280, not really sure with this particular year model. Even after calling Boston Whaler directly to verify the proper model id, all we ended up with was a big question mark.
To start off, we thought this was a chance for us to challenge ourselves and really see what we can turn this boat into. We have a great foundation to work with. But there is still much to be desired. In our case, mostly electronically. So this blog post will just be a starting reference point. The upgrades will follow as the transformation happens.
The main dash unit will be one of the first to go. We are still trying to figure out the overhead electronics box. Luckily the helm switch panel seems to ok, for now. The remaining switch panels, battery switch box, battery charger, and most importantly, the addition of a spot lock trolling motor are in the very near future.
We do want to get this beauty on the water and get some blood on the deck, so we have to figure out our priorities and execute. Our initial test ride on the bay showed the starboard motor engine temp getting high under high rpm, while cooling when dropping engine speed. Hopefully, it's nothing major. New thermostats are on the way.
So, stay tuned for the transformation as we implement modern day and much needed updates!
